Run specific tasks when it's most convenient

Instead of the general maintenace tasks provided by the Maintenance Wizard, it is preferred to schedule certain tasks, like running ScanDisk, to take place at specific times on specific days. In this case anyone can use the Scheduled Tasks faciflity instead or in addition to the Maintenance Wizard.

Scheduled Tasks is similar to the Mainteance Wizard, except that it allows to specify exactly what programs are to be run at exactly what time. The tool starts automatically, each time when you starts Windows and runs in the background, waiting for the scheduled time. If it is inconvenient when the task starts to run, cancel it.

How to set up Scheduled Tasks:

  • Go to the Start menu.
  • Select Programs, then Accessories, then System Tools, and Scheduled Tasks.
  • Double click on the Add Scheduled Task icon.
  • Click Next.
  • Select the task to schedule and click Next.
  • Select the frequency to perform this task.
  • Click Next.
  • Select the time to begin as well as the regularity and the day on which the task is to take place. Click Next.
  • Click Finish.
